Baker Creek Rare Seeds 2024 || What did I Buy???
Loved the coin drop sound! Made me laugh. 😂 Here in zone 6b it's been dry like the Sahara. Watering daily. I have a dwarf pomegranate for 2 years now that has beautiful orange colored blooms and fruit on it. It's one of my favorite plants that I overwinter in my garage. All my snakes are outside sucking up the summer sunshine. No matter what though, I'll take the drought over Old Man Winter! Thanks for the vid brother.
The heat and lack of rain has been terrible. Glad to know there are some great options.
I have 2 they ha ve no buds and were in august sigh.... u don't know if I should pull it or not
How long ago did they germinate?
How did they end up doing? 😅 I just propped some in water
All but one have grown into large plants. One leaf just randomly shriveled up and died but good overall
Put woodchips in the bottom also and you wont need any fertilizer, trust me, nobody does this but me, compost in the middle.
I like putting the old root at the bottom.
Wow! Where did you find the seeds?
California baobabs . Com
What do you do with the seed pods?
I just tuck them under the plants for compost and mulch
Good video, Dave.
Thank you. Appreciate it
I’m in 6a western IL - Is there anything else that can be put on top of ground before putting the mulch down?
3 inches of compost. Then 2-3 inches of wood chip mulch. Not fresh. Then the leaves. It seems like a lot but will all break down and insulate the plants
Mine died after one wattering and i just bought it and took home
Was it tap water? Also did the soil stay saturated?
Please list the names of your Clematis…
Congrats looks great
Thanks! It’s really taken off this year in the heat
@kriss_lynn I will make a season wrap up video in prob September
Deer gotta eat too. Use your brains and your hearts.
Can you water though it in the garden without moving it aside....thanks
Sure can.
This was a great video, man! I hope it goes viral because it needs to be!
I like your enthusiasm but YT blocks my content for whatever reason
So I don’t know how to use this RUclips stuff much hopefully I get a response from you. Have a great aloe plant that decided to bud this year and need to know more about how to harvest the seed pods so that I can germinate them and create more babies.
They will need to be manually pollinated since we don’t have the right butterflies and insects that would naturally do it. Take the flower from one and try to pollinate another. If it takes you will tell and then collect the seeds
@@DaveTheHillsideGardener can I pollinate it with one of the pods off of itself
@jacobpeterson7024 it’s possible but more viable with another parent.
Very well said Dave! All true.
Thank you!! I was worried nobody would agree
I brought a little cutting back from vacation. I put it in water to root. A few weeks later the top of the stem was covered in tiny black bugs. I don’t know where they came from. I rinsed the bugs off but in another week they were back. I rinsed them off and put some insect dust on them. I would like to have it as a house plant. Does this plant attract bugs?
It can attract aphids if outdoors or if the plant was infected you took a cutting of. They can get bugs but mine never go outside so unless you have another plant with issues I’d say you brought them in with the cutting
When is the best time to plant Echeanica seeds
Cold stratify them over winter and plant in early spring indoors , you can plant later but they won’t do as well in the heat of summer
Do you cut them wayyy back during fall/winter or just leave them be?
they are beautiful, I know they are easy to pull out bc no tap root, but would they overpower rose bushes? I think they would look lovely as groundcover
Mine don’t they just act as a ground cover
@@DaveTheHillsideGardener thx so much for response, Dave! they are so beautiful on your slope, magickal ...did a little checking and they are great for eco system ruclips.net/video/iCL5Tetg2S4/видео.htmlsi=zQzC5DqTyx7QZLMB
thank you for this valuable info ❤ just bought a house last year and wasn't sure what to do with my dying peonies this summer!
Glad I could help! Good luck with your new plants
I just did all the steps that you showed but now my new growth is wilting??? What can I do or is it a lost cause??
Did you water after dividing?
@@DaveTheHillsideGardener after I repotted the new growth, yes
@JenniferYniguez740 I would let it rest make sure it is not in full sun. They appreciate semi shade
@@DaveTheHillsideGardener for how long? Should I wait til it’s completely dry to water it again?
@JenniferYniguez740 I would wait yes
I'm gonna try growing them, just to have a break from CS
One just hatched on my plant. My spaghetti squash is dying any way the borer worm got to it.
Ah I’m sorry. Those bugs can wreck havoc for sure
Very maganda
Thank you. I love snake plants 🪴
We purchased 55 acres of forest property from Weyerhaeuser with 20 year old doug firs on it. There are many decomposing stumps from when they last harvested 25 or so years ago. Stumps are 3-5 feet across and about 2' tall, all decomposing with hills of deep, dark red decomposed wood at their bases. We've been trying to figure out what to do with the stumps in the 3 acre area we cleared for our homestead that were too large for the excavator to remove. Now I know! Thank you! Those carpenter ants who have been milling away at the stumps might be an issue in the wooden raised beds though.
Yeah you will always have to be aware of what microorganisms you bring in with this method. I like to let mine sit a year in a compost pile to naturally decompose more and let nature figure out the balance before using it. Good luck and congrats
So cooool!!!!
Yep I love growing rare and unusual specimens
I fertilize mine, magic😊 zone 9b. Trouble with canna rust due to humidity
💚
Great video. Very helpful thanks!
Thank you. 🙏
good stuff. very helpful info , well spoken. fun facts too!
Thanks a bunch!
Thank you!!!
@@letygerber2546 glad I could help
I left mine grow insanely long stems because I didn't know how to care for it. It seems happy like that but it's ugly as f* 😂, especially because when it's let loose like this, it looses all its leaves at the bottom and only keeps a dozen or so at the end of the branch lmao
Yeah it can get pretty spindly if you don’t cut it back occasionally. Cutting it back helps promote blooming as well. Give it a try
My favorite flowers by far. Amazing country smell and attraction of pollinators. I could have a yard full of them
Yessir. Wonderful for many reasons
I love how they attract so many pollinators!!
Definitely! So many pollinators
Getting seeds for the next year im impressed how they look
Thank you. One of my favorites for sure
🤔I walk past my Rue plants and run my hands up the branches to get a Big Hit (smell) of its leaves. I have a Love affair with Rue and it loves me back. It's No brag just fact. It effects people differently. James in El Paso, Tx.😁😉👍
It’s the sap that causes the irritation
I'm ready for the 2 year update on the mother plant!
Long story short. I gave the plant to one of my family members who eventually killed it. Word of advice. Do NOT overwater kalanchoe. I do have many other varieties of kalanchoe if you’d be interested on a video of them?
@@DaveTheHillsideGardener oof yah most people don't realize they're a succulent! I did a "brave" cut on mine this summer so we'll see how it goes
@user-mu7rk2gk2v hopefully yours rebounds nicely
After 2 yrs how did they turn out?
They grew just fine. But the deer ate them to the ground and they never recovered. My new apple trees are behind a fence now.
Did these cuttings root? Where is the video.
They all rooted and when they were big enough I gave them away to a friend since I have no room for a giant tree in my yard.
Thank you!
You’re welcome
I have sometjing similar the leaves are meaty and the flowers come in all colors. It looks exqctly the same except the bottom. Mine are called livingstone daisy i think
Are you talking about Lithops? I think they’re related in some way?
@@DaveTheHillsideGardener their latin name is Dorotheanthus bellidiformis They look almost identical to your plant. The flower that is and the bottom part is different
@emelgiefro wow those are cool thanks for the suggestions
That is so cool!
It’s one of my new favorites. The flower is beautiful
Those are huge. I grow mine near other varieties, same conditions and bulb sizes are vastly different. Do you find the roja have other needs from varieties like music or red Russian?
Every garlic has conditions it likes. I grew about 10 varieties over the years. Some did horrible some much better. I’d just try a bunch and find the one that likes your conditions and stick with it tbh.
How did you get them to grow that tall?
Moist highly fertile soil with compost for many years
